Rachel Bers: Incidents and Alphabets
2014
GRIDSPACE is pleased to announce an exhibition of drawings and sculptures by Brooklyn-based artist Rachel Bers entitled Incidents and Alphabets. In the window grid, Bers has arranged a series of forms woven from brightly colored polymer clay set against a backdrop of contour drawings, shadows and caricatures of these forms as well as broken shards, casualties of her working process. Taken together the pieces embody different points in the lifecycle of a form and an idea. The original objects live alongside their shadows, are haunted by ghosts of themselves as well as projections of what they might be in a future state. The shards, set free from their intended structural purpose, form an alphabet that recounts a tale of making and unmaking.
